The perfect combination between tradition and innovation is made possible by Iran’s strategic position between Eastern and Western countries. The pavilion design has been inspired by Sofreh, a typical spread set for ceremonies, one of the most important objects in the Iranian food culture.Precisely from this image has the pavilion architecture been conceived: an open structure resembling a tent. The surface gradually unfolds in the air forming a curved wall made up of triangular cells, whose pattern recounts the history of food and agriculture of the Iranian people. The architectural elements are designed to absorb as much sunlight as possible and provide a space that is open while remaining covered. The exhibition consists in a set of wooden “flower boxes” containing typical Iranian ingredients and aromatic plants. A floor made of LEDs that looks like a river appearing and disappearing from the ground guides visitors. At night, when the sun goes down, the pavilion is even more enchanting, thanks to the magical atmosphere created by the lights colouring the walls and reflecting on the mirrors hanging from the ceiling.
